January 20 Update

On Jan. 9th, the Company and Union began local contract negotiations. After two weeks of intense discussions and disagreements, with both sides having their own set of demands, we made positive strides towards reaching a new contract agreement.

On Jan. 18th the Union started handing out red shirts which should be worn every Thursday until we reach a new contract agreement. We will continue wearing the blue shirts from Labor Day on Fridays. We had a great turn out! Cars were backed both directions on Geddes Avenue from 22nd to Faries parkway. We had UAW brothers and sisters standing in the rain so they could get a shirt to show our solidarity. Thanks for your patience as we got people checked in and through the line as fast as possible. The shirts were paid for by UAW’s Cat council and were provided to all four locals under our Central Agreement.

On Jan. 23rd, the Company and the Union will start central contract negotiations. On Jan. 27th the strike authorization vote will take place at the hall. At that time members will be able to see bullet points from the company’s first contract proposal and then vote to give our negotiation team the authorization to strike if needed, this is NOT a vote to go on strike. Strike authorization is the biggest bargaining chip we have and is necessary to negotiate a good contract.

Also, a reminder to all members you must be current on dues to vote for strike authorization, contract ratification and receive strike pay in the event of a strike. This is the best opportunity we have ever seen to get a strong contract. We must stand as one and stick together now more than ever.

We have started sending out text messaging updates to our members. When we have updates on the website about bargaining, you will receive a text alert. Make sure you are signed up by texting START to 1-844-547-7517. For the system to automatically recognize your number, you will need to have a cell phone number on file with the hall. If you do not, we will have to add it in manually. Our system is in the process of being upgraded to automatically add these numbers in and syncing them to your contact information. Until that happens to make sure you get these text alerts, please send your badge number, name, and cell phone to [email protected]. If you provided that information to your steward earlier, we should already have you in the system.
