Lennox

Lennox Furnace Company was organized in March 1964 by the United Furnace workers. Then in November of 1976, they voted in the UAW and became Unit 11 and were certified on December 7th. First contract was ratified in June 1977.

Lennox furnace production has been through many changes. First there were coal and fuel oil, then gas conversions. Next straight gas furnaces, both natural and L.P. gas. Then the introduction of the G-14 Pulse. We have had solar panels and hot water heaters, and 2nd generation efficiency units. With the consolidations of the Columbus, Ohio plant in 1993, the Marshalltown plant produced top of the line coil blowers, air conditioners, and heat pumps. The bargaining unit at the Marshalltown plant went from 300-400 people in 1976 to its peak in 2004 of approximately twenty months. In April of 2012 members ratified the agreement that is currently in place.
