EDUCATION

We place a high priority on education in our Region, and we are the only UAW Region that has its own free-standing education center. Located on the banks of the Illinois river, theUAW Pat Greathouse Education Center in Ottawa, Illinois hosts many UAW leaders and members each year. Here they learn how to be leaders and contributors in their local unions and the communities in which they live. Members learn new skills, such as collective bargaining, grievance handling, strategic planning, labor history, public speaking, community service, and political action. In addition, many conferences are held for our standing committees.

The Walter and May Reuther Family Education Center embodies the UAW's commitment to education, also. Each year, thousands of UAW members and their families participate in one of the many International UAW's education programs and conferences at this unique education center on the shores of Black Lake in northern Michigan.

In addition to the International Union and Region 4 educational conferences, there are publications available to local union leadership for training workshops. For a list of publications that are available, please click here to review the UAW Supply Booklet. Orders must be approved by your Local Union President or Financial Secretary.

Delegates interested in applying for a LUDL position for the region should ask their local union president to write the Regional Director a letter of recommendation. Please include a resume with this letter. The Director will review all presented materials and will ultimately recommend a delegate (1 delegate is selected from each region per year) to attend an intensive five week Fellowship Program at Black Lake in Onaway, MI. This program will include UAW members from various sections of the country who have also been selected to participate as well. In an educational environment, delegates will be provided with the training and tools needed to become effective local leaders. This is also a wonderful opportunity to discuss and learn more about current concerns to unions, labor history, labor law and other related subject matter.

Please send all LUDL letters of recommendation and resumes to:

Region 4 UAW
900 East Center Street
Ottawa, IL 61350
Attn: Director's Office
