Social Justice award to Sister Maria Medina (Education Department)

Sister Maria Medina set the first charge to make the whole consultation in Spanish for all our members to be able to read. UAW showed a video of how her dad worked for a UAW local, and she had to come as a child to help interpret for him. She ran into Shawn Fain and asked why the consultation was not written in Spanish. So Shawn helped make that happen for her and all the members for whom English is their first language.
Director Brandon Campbell gave out the award and told a story about how honored he was to do this for the Spanish-speaking community.
She started her speech by thanking President Fain for helping get this done. She said that the award is for her father, who is “looking down on her in pride, saying, That's it, my girl, keep going”. With emotion, she ended her speech, thanking the membership.
