Our GM Unit Representatives
Our unit’s work is fueled by the dedication of our workers—they stand as the cornerstone of this union.
Dedicated to your well-being, this team works with management to identify and address potential hazards, promoting a safe and healthy environment for everyone on the floor.
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides confidential support and resources for members and their families facing personal or work-related challenges.
This team helps members navigate and understand their healthcare, pension, and other contractual benefits, providing guidance on eligibility and enrollment.
The Apprenticeship and JAR (Joint Activity Representative) Programs work to create and maintain opportunities for members to enter skilled trades, ensuring quality training and a clear path to career growth.
UAW GMS Coaches are joint representatives who train and mentor teams on the five lean manufacturing principles to improve shop-floor efficiency. They act as subject matter experts who facilitate continuous improvement and standardized work routines to ensure high quality and safety.
The ADAP (Accommodating Disabilities Advisory Process) is a vital union-driven tool used to protect the seniority and job security of members who have physical or medical limitations. UAW representatives in this process fight to ensure management provides reasonable accommodations rather than pushing members onto medical leave, keeping workers on the floor and earning a paycheck.
UAW Ergonomics representatives focus on identifying and reducing workplace risk factors on your body. They utilize specialized assessment tools to redesign jobs and equipment, ensuring the workplace fits the physical needs of the worker rather than forcing the worker to adapt to a poorly designed task.
UAW Industrial Engineering (IE) representatives serve as the technical watchdog for the membership, ensuring that management’s production standards do not compromise worker health or contractual rights. They verify that "fair day’s work" calculations include proper allowances for fatigue and personal needs, preventing the company from over-burdening operators.
When a quality issue hits the line, management’s first instinct is often to look at the operator. Our Problem Solvers are the first line of defense against unjust blame. We step in immediately to ensure the focus remains on the process, not the person.
