UAW 39th Constitution Convention guest speaker Dr. Abdul El-Sayed Michigan Senate Candidate

He started with a joke, talking about his name being “made” for politics. He said it should not be this hard to live. He talked about how his grandmother was the smartest person he knows as he saw how hard it was for her. He went on to talk about his father, who was inspired by an American car, so he studied very hard and when he became an adult he moved to the USA. His dad later became a union man and ran a strike at his university as a professor. After talking about his father in the speech, Abdul talked about why he became a doctor to help the health department and put polluters in their place; he ended with placing Narcan in vending machines. He became active in politics when “that orange man cut health funding”. When the late senator didn't come for reelection, he said he had to step up; he said, "Go big or go home, so he went home". Talking about him losing his last race. He thinks companies' money should be out of politics/keep money in your pockets/healthcare for all. He talked about how he is the only candidate that has not taken any corporate money and will never do so. Not only that, but he said, "That shit should be illegal". He thinks the PRO Act should be passed. He said they need to stop corporations from profiting off people and should ban stock buybacks. We need a set of targeted tariffs; we need it to be built in the USA, and it should be a good union job. He then went into about CEOs being paid in stock. He wants to lock all their stock for 10 years after they leave the company. So they know they are not trying to fill Wall Street's pockets. He again talked about this country needing Medicare for all. "We need to ask the general how they are going to pay for bombs, like we do when we go to the doctor and they ask how we are going to be paying for healthcare". He took some time out of his speech to talk about ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement): "ICE doesn't need retraining; it needs to be abolished". He shifted his speech about why nothing is getting done. The reasons we lose elections are because Democrats get into office and take the money they are fighting against. After saying this, he stated he is still a Democrat. He went back to talking about corporate greed: "Fight for an America that thinks Main Street over Wall Street". "We will win because the power of the people is the power of the money". He went into talking about where he could have ended up. "I got a front-row seat to how my life would be". He was talking about going to Egypt. Almost at the end of his speech, he went into his family. He spoke on how he has 2 little girls who are 100% American, and he is so proud. He then went into how it was in the past and how the USA is going backwards, a small quote I pulled out of the speech: "Backwards this fast". The last statement he wanted to tell the delegation was, "We will not get it if we do not fight for it," This speech was a very emotional speech with a lot of clapping and standing.
