2026 UAW International Officer Election – Upcoming Candidate Forums

Dear UAW members:

 

As you may know, over the coming months, there will be a 2026 UAW International Officer Election (the “2026 Election”). As detailed in the Informal Notice of Election, available here, the offices to be filled through the 2026 Election are the offices of International President, International Secretary-Treasurer, three (3) International Vice Presidents, and nine (9) Regional Director positions. The 2026 Election is being conducted by secret mail-in ballot.  

 

Pursuant to the Consent Decree issued by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan in the matter of United States v. International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace, and Agricultural Implement Workers of America, 20 Cv. 13293 (DML-RSW), the Court-appointed Monitor of the UAW will administer the 2026 Election.  

 

Ballots will begin to be mailed on or about August 21, 2026, and must be received by closing time of the designated U.S. Post Office on October 5, 2026 in order to be counted. All UAW members in good standing as of September 30, 2026, are eligible to vote in the 2026 Election, including members who are part-time workers, reinstated members, and retired members.

Candidate Forums

 

In consultation with the UAW, the Monitor has developed detailed election rules and methods for the Election (the “Election Rules”), available here. Pursuant to Election Rule 4-13 and the Monitor’s Candidate Forum Rules, available here, and in an effort to promote the informed participation of the Union membership in the 2026 Election, there will be voluntary Candidate Forums for the offices of International Secretary-Treasurer, International Vice President, and International President. The Election Rules and Candidate Forum Rules are linked in this email and available on the Monitor’s website at www.uawmonitor.com/elections. The Candidate Forums will be held on the following schedule:

 

  • Thursday, July 23 (6 pm ET): International Secretary-Treasurer Candidate Forum. 
  • Monday, July 27 (6 pm ET): International Vice President Candidate Forum. 
  • Thursday, July 30 (6 pm ET): International President Candidate Forum. 

 

The Candidate Forums will be livestreamed on Zoom and YouTube and open for public viewing. The Zoom and YouTube links are available below and will remain the same for each Candidate Forum:

 

 

All YouTube and Zoom chat and/or comment functions will be disabled during each Candidate Forum. The Candidate Forums will be recorded and later posted on the Monitor’s website at www.uawmonitor.com/elections, so that all UAW members who wish to view the Candidate Forum may do so at their convenience. The Monitor will also provide the recording for posting on the UAW website. 

 

As with the Candidate Forums during the 2022 UAW International Officer Election and 2023 UAW International Officer Run-Off Election, Steven Greenhouse, American labor and workplace journalist and writer, will serve as the independent moderator for the Candidate Forums. Mr. Greenhouse is not affiliated with the UAW or the Monitor team. 

 

Any member who wishes to submit a question for the Moderator to consider including in the Candidate Forums may do so by emailing the question to the Monitor at UAWMonitor-Election@jenner.com with the subject line “Candidate Forum Question.” The email should specify:

 

  • whether the question relates to a specific Candidate or Candidate Forum and, if so, which one;
  • whether the individual submitting the question wishes to be identified with the question or remain anonymous; and 
  • whether the individual submitting the question is a member in good standing of the UAW and, if so, their Local Union number.

 

Consistent with the Candidate Forum Rules, questions should be submitted no later than 72 hours before the relevant Candidate Forum. The submission of a question does not guarantee that the question will be presented at a Candidate Forum and the Moderator retains discretion to include, exclude or otherwise edit submitted questions. The Moderator has the authority to ask questions submitted by members and their own questions.
