About Us

Fisher organinzed in 1964 and got their own local #893, because they were so big.
In 1964, Kiowa Corporation organized and became UAW Local 381. Shortly afterwoods, Cooper Manufacturing joined the UAW and together formed Amalgamated Local 381.
In 1965 Fire Apparatus and Trowel Manufacturing joined Local 381 and a year later in 1966 Dunham-Bush also joined.
In 1968 Marshalltown Intruments organized and joined Local 893 with Fisher and became Amalgamated Local 893. 
In 1970 the Retired Worker Chapter was formed in Local 893. 
In 1971 all of the units from local 381 and 893 combined to form the Amalgamated Local 893 we know today.
The Local 893 union hall, the old VFW Building onState Street, no longer suited our needs and we purchused our present building today on Iowa Ave in 1972
In 1972 Midwest Spring and Ramco joined us but Ramco was very short-lived.
Ritchie Industries and Lennox Industries joined in 1976.
We lost Fire Apperatus in 1976, MidwestSpring in early 80's and Marshalltown Instuments in 1984.
Marshalltown Care Facility joined 1987, and later closed in 1987, and Meeker became certified in 1988 and closed 1991.
Western Manufacturing joined in 1997. Ryerson Tull joined in 2001.
Our most recent addition is the City of Marshalltown Parks & Recreation Department which joined in 2003.
