The Women’s Department, under the leadership of LaShawn English, is asking that you encourage members to register and join a team in support of Making Strides Against Breast Cancer (instructions are enclosed). This year, over 319,000 individuals will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and 42,170 women will succumb to this disease in the United States. Breast cancer does not solely affect women; men are impacted as well. It is estimated that 2,800 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in men, with approximately 510 men expected to lose their lives to the illness.

To raise awareness and make a significant difference in the battle against breast cancer, the International Union, UAW Women’s Department is partnering with the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer for the tenth consecutive year. By joining forces, we can create a meaningful impact, aiding the American Cancer Society in funding vital research, enhancing early detection, and ultimately saving more lives. Since 2014, UAW and its members have raised a total of $968,480.

On Saturday, October 11, 2025, please join the UAW Women’s Department under our tent at the Historic Corner Ball Park (formerly Tigers Stadium), located at 1680 Michigan Avenue, Detroit, MI 48216, from 8 am to 11 am, as we will walk in honor of those who have lost their lives to breast cancer and those who have survived and thrived. For those who wish to walk for the cause, there are two options, a one- or two-mile walk; together, let us walk for the cause.

To support individuals affected by breast cancer, your volunteer efforts and donations enable the American Cancer Society to fund groundbreaking research. They also provide education and resources to help people minimize their risk, along with extensive support for patients in need. This ensures that no one has to confront breast cancer alone.

While notable strides have been made in the fight against breast cancer in recent years, there is still much to accomplish. In a spirit of solidarity, the UAW Women’s Department is enthusiastically urging both active and retired UAW members, along with their friends and families, to participate in local Making Strides events.

To be part of this important initiative, please register online at:

or

contact your local American Cancer Society office at 1 (800) 227-2345.

Members have the choice to either create their own UAW team or join an existing one. No matter which option you choose, please ensure that everyone selects “UAW Women” from the Company drop-down menu. There is no registration fee to take part in this event; however, we encourage each registered walker to aim for a minimum fundraising goal of $100.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is the largest network of breast cancer awareness events in the country, celebrating over 30 years of saving lives and bringing communities together to honor those affected by the disease. The UAW Women’s Department is proud to collaborate on this important initiative.

Because of the determination of supporters like you, the American Cancer Society is here for people in every community affected by breast cancer, whether they are currently dealing with a diagnosis, may face one in the future, or will avoid it altogether because of education and risk reduction efforts.

Thank you in advance for your unwavering support and your direct involvement in saving lives and championing the cause for a world free from cancer.
