The Union Plus Mortgage Assistance Program is a solid resource for union members during difficult times, especially during a layoff. The program, administered through the AFL-CIO Mutual Benefit Plan, provides interest-free loans and grants to help make mortgage payments for members who are disabled, unemployed, locked out or on strike, or on layoff. Members who qualify for the Mortgage Assistance loan benefit also receive a one-time grant of $1,000.

I want to send a message to the family of George Floyd. I cannot begin to imagine what you are going through in these hours after your son’s tragic and needless death.

Today is the start of Pride month. 51 years ago the Stonewall Riots, also called the Stonewall Uprising, began in the early hours of June 28th, 1969. When police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar located in Greenwich Village in New York City, it was the breaking point after years of raids, harassment, and violence by the police towards queer people. The raid sparked days of riots, led by trans women of color, after police violently hauled employees and patrons out of the bar.

As you are aware, the UAW has established Wednesdays as “Red Shirt” Day. This is a way for
our members to show solidarity and support the working class of America. Attached is a flyer

As we go through this challenging part of history, I can truly say I have never been prouder of being part of this membership. I often say that being your Director is not a job, but an opportunity. I am grateful for the opportunity to move this Region forward with so many dedicated brothers and sisters.
